Press Releases LCL
LCL wins an EcoVadis platinum medal, placing it in the top 1% of companies worldwide in terms of sustainability
Diegem, 14 January 2025 – The data centers specialist LCL has been awarded the prestigious EcoVadis platinum medal. This distinction confirms that LCL is among the top 1% of companies in terms of sustainability, from a global perspective, in the telecoms sector. Over the last few years, LCL has pioneered sustainability in the data centers sector, and it is the only Belgian data center to receive this highest accolade.
Last year, LCL was the first Belgian data center to win an EcoVadis gold medal, which means it featured among the top 5% of companies worldwide in terms of sustainability. In this new evaluation, the data centers specialist has now achieved the highest level: an EcoVadis platinum medal (99+ percentile). A platinum medal is awarded for a minimum score of 81 (percentile reference). LCL achieved a remarkable score of 89, i.e. 19% more than last year, thus positioning the company at the top of this category. Thanks to this recognition, LCL has underscored the leading role that it plays in its sector and the company has become a model for sustainability on a global scale.
Laurens van Reijen, Managing Director of LCL Data Centers: “EcoVadis’ evaluation is a great barometer to measure an organisation’s ESG policy. When we earlier won the gold medal, this also helped us to better understand which actions we should undertake in order to further improve our performance. We made tremendous progress over a short time, which enabled us today to win the platinum medal. This progress is the result of hard work and targeted actions, such as getting certifications, reducing CO2 emissions plus more support for our collaborators.”
Significant progress over one year
LCL’s score for ‘sustainable procurement’ increased from 50% to 90%. On environment matters, the company had already achieved the excellent score of 80%, but it has now enhanced its performance to reach 90%. The company’s score for ‘labor and human rights’ rose by 20%, from 70% to 90%. Lastly, on ‘ethics’, LCL rose from 70% to 90%.
Here are a few of the actions that led to an 18% increase in the overall score:
• ISO 50001 certification;
• approval of LCL’s policy by the UNGC (United Nations Global Compact);
• the setting up, in the words of EcoVadis, of “exceptional policies with measurable objectives” in several fields (environment, labor and human rights, sustainable procurement, etc.).
About EcoVadis medals and badges
The EcoVadis score (on a scale of 100) evaluates organisations by reference to sustainability criteria. Four main themes are taken into account: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The EcoVadis score is widely used, which makes it possible to compare companies in all sectors, in relation to their sustainability efforts. Consequently, this score can also be used as a reliable reference for product specifications.
