AYA raises €2 million in capital for European
expansion through acquisitions
First acquisition: Belgian company Coretec
Aalst, Brussels, 16 June – AYA, a Belgian energy management company, has raised €2 million in capital. The growth capital was raised from three investors: Wallonie Entreprendre, Nomainvest and Bewatt (Bruno Vanderschueren). The funds will be used to support AYA’s European expansion strategy. AYA is targeting acquisitions of players specialising in services for the energy market in Belgium and abroad.
With the fresh capital of 2 million euros, AYA is continuing its growth. AYA wants to be a European player by 2028. The company is initially targeting expansion into France, the Netherlands and Eastern European countries. At the heart of this ambition is a well-thought-out buy-and-build strategy. Rather than internationalising from Belgium, AYA has opted to acquire existing foreign companies with a strong local base and supplement their offering with AYA’s technology and expertise. AYA wants to have operational teams in the target countries who know the local specifics and companies through and through and can serve customers in their own language and within their own culture and market reality.
“We strongly believe in local anchoring,” explains Louis Langerock, CEO of AYA. ‘By integrating existing companies and their teams within AYA, we can conquer other markets more quickly and with an existing customer base. It’s a win-win situation. Most companies in the energy services sector specialise in one specific area. We offer umbrella services across all energy dimensions. This enables the companies we acquire to offer more expertise to their customers, while we can get off to a quick start in the country in question.‘
Investors with a long-term vision
The investors:
- Wallonie Entreprendre, a Walloon government vehicle for investments in areas including sustainability: new investor;
- Nomainvest: new investor;
- Bewatt (Bruno Vander Schueren), which had already invested in AYA and is now increasing its investment.
The investors are investing part in shares and part via a subordinated loan. They intend to invest even more in AYA in the long term.
The founders of AYA, Louis Langerock and Alexandre Indekeu, will retain the majority of the shares, ensuring strategic continuity and focus on the company’s long-term vision.
The more global the approach to energy management, the more benefits for all customers
As a European player, AYA will also be able to offer its Belgian customers even more benefits in the form of greater returns on their energy investments and lower energy bills. In concrete terms, AYA will get to know and be able to introduce new flexibility players who are more efficient and/or offer better value for money. Players who are already further along the learning curve are often both better and cheaper.
First acquisition: Coretec, which helps companies purchase traditional energy more efficiently and at lower prices
The first acquisition has just been signed. It concerns Coretec Invoicing, which operates under the brand name Coretec Energie. Coretec is a leading Walloon player in the field of optimising energy purchases from traditional energy suppliers. This acquisition fits perfectly with AYA’s strategy of integrating strong regional players, in Belgium and abroad, with an existing customer base to which AYA can add value.
