La Dolce Vita: The secret to successful networking

On 26 June, I attended the ‘Dolce Vita Garden Party’ organised by Cercle du Lac in Louvain-la-Neuve, together with my colleague Aurelia Ricciardi. The event brought together entrepreneurs, business leaders and key figures from the regional economic community in an atmosphere inspired by the Italian art of living.

Beyond the particularly pleasant setting, this event served as a reminder of an essential truth: the best professional opportunities often arise from informal conversations. In a relaxed and convivial environment, discussions flow more naturally, ideas are exchanged freely, and new collaborations can emerge.

In our profession, relationships are built first and foremost on trust and the quality of interactions. Events like this provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing connections, force new relationships and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges, projects and aspirations of businesses across our region.

Digital networks have made it easier than ever to connect with people, but meeting in person adds another dimension. In communication, the quality of a relationship is not measured by the number of contacts one has accumulated, but by the strength of the bond formed. Virtual interactions and exchanges cannot match the depth of a face-to-face conversation. Meeting in person allows us to pick up nuances, grasp subtleties and establish a natural closeness that goes beyond the professional context. Digital tools facilitate connections; personal encounters, however, are often what transform a contact into a genuine relationship.

This edition, inspired by the spirit of ‘la Dolce Vita’, perfectly illustrated the value of taking the time to connect with one another. It was a welcome summer interlude, filled with meaningful conversations, fresh inspiration and valuable opportunities for professional exchange.
